The Apostles' Creed

We are in agreement with the apostles creed

The Apostles' creed quoted here, is a general but concise statement of faith and belief that is universal for all Bible believing Christians.

-------------------------------------------

1. I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:

2. And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:

3. Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary:

4. Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell:

5. The third day he rose again from the dead:

6. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:

7. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead:

8. I believe in the Holy Ghost:

9. I believe in the holy catholic* church: the communion of saints:

10. The forgiveness of sins:

1l. The resurrection of the body:

12. And the life everlasting. Amen.

*( NOTE: use of the word ‘catholic’ here does not refer to a particular denomination. It simply means ‘universal’. In this creed it refers to the fact that in God’s eyes all who affirm what is stated in this creed belong to one Christian church, regardless of race, denomination or sect. Webster's Dictionary defines catholic as" Of the Christian church as a whole; specif., of the ancient, undivided Christian church ". This is our usage and meaning here.)

About the Apostles' Creed

The word, "creed" simply means "Belief". A creed is a statement of common belief based upon scripture truth. Creeds have been created at various times throughout the history of the Church to define fundamental beliefs and exclude erroneous teaching.

The Apostles Creed is the oldest  of  the important creeds of the early Church. It was created to confront the false teachings of the Gnostics who believed that everything physical was corrupt  and that only spiritual things are pure.

Institute for Christian Leadership has available a  Guide to Early Church Documents  that clearly describes content and origins of early Church creeds.

There are some  Bible Creeds which are creeds based on various scriptures, and a listing of other important creeds from Reasoning with the Scripture Ministries
